Ssssshhhhhhh. It's An Embarrassing Secret

Image: Shower. Text: You think you've defeated me, but I'll be back. Evenutally.I have an embarrassing confession to make.

I know I'm not alone in this, because other lupies have told me they do the same.

Please don't think badly of me because of this but... (whisper)  I no longer shower every day.

You see, lots of everyday things leave me utterly exhausted.

One of those things is having a shower.  I can do it, but I have to just rest for half an hour, sometimes longer, afterwards.

All in all, a five minute shower takes a big chunk out of the energy I have available to survive the day.

So, I'm afraid, I only shower every second day.

But at least I'm not the only one with this terrible secret.

When I talk on social media about everyday things that leave me exhausted, one of the things that lots and lots of lupies will respond is that showering leaves them utterly exhausted and they have to rest.  As it turns out, my embarrassing secret, isn't just mine.  It's "normal" life for lots of lupies.

So if you're one of those people who enjoy a relaxing shower after a long, hard, day, make the most of it.  For some of us, having a shower is a long, hard, day.

  1. I used to be one of those to enjoy a long, relaxing shower or bath to unwind, now I'm on the same page as you.

  2. Being clean doesn't mean having a shower every day. You can wash with a washcloth and some soap at the sink as well, or a baby wipe "in case of emergency"... Claire

  3. I too, feel the same way, things that people mostly take for granted, things that used to make us feel energized and good about ourselves, are now becoming tedious chores! And most people in our lives, don't understand, or wont understand what we are feeling! I constantly find myself angry, at myself, because I feel like I am not that old, that I should be able to do so much more! God Bless You, take care and do the best that you can, and never feel that you have to push yourself into situations, where you are uncomfortable, for the sake of someone else!!;

  4. I definitely understand! I quit washing my hair every day because of this reason. And most of the time I do feel worn out by the time I get done showering and getting ready to leave the house.
    My favorite days are when I can stay in my pjs all day long. :)

  5. Thanks God I'm not alone! If I have the energy to shower I have to wash my hair in the sink another day. I used to wear a baseball cap to hide my thin unwashed hair but now I am thinking of getting a wig.

  6. I don't take a shower very often, not just because of the exhausting part but also because with my Sjogrens, my skin gets extremely dry & itchy & flakes off -- and it takes forever to get my skin calmed down after a shower. I do wash my hair in the sink everyday tho & generally try to stay a clean & un-sweaty person, but will do a wet rag with soap in a pinch if need be. And a shower on my good days. ;)
