Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge Day 1

lupus.cheezburger.com
Well, it's April Fool's Day, and Wego Health's Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge is starting.

Today's question is:  Why HAWMC? This is our third year of the Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge – why did you get involved this year? Are you a newbie to #HAWMC or a veteran?

I guess I'm a veteran, although I still feel like I'm very new to blogging.

I started my blog in May 2011. Since then I've taken part in both of Wego Health's month-long writers' challenges each year (Health Activitst Writer's Month Challenge and National Health Blog Post Month.)

Because I'm looking at topics I didn't think of for myself, I've been stretched, so the blog is more interesting.
In fact, of my ten most popular posts to date, four have been written in response to prompts from either HAWMC or NHBPM.  (If you're interested, those are To Post or Not to Post?, Health Writer's Month: Five Dinner Guests, Fighting the Wolf,  and Health Writer's Month: Random Phrase.)

I've also developed the Lupus Business Directory in response to one prompt which challenged me to think of something I could do to help my my community.

Apart from that, taking part in both of these challenges has been an opportunity to discover other bloggers whose work has inspired me.

So, that's why I'm a part of it. Maybe I'll eventually reach a point where all of the prompts are things I find I've already dealt with, but for now, I think it's good for the blog, good for me as a writer, and hopefully good for my community, that I take part.

This post written as part of Wego Health's Health Activist Writers' Month Challenge.
